Shower Remodeling

As you can imagine, redesigning your bathroom can get pretty complicated and there's much more to a remodel than just tiling. Remodeling a bathroom can be a little overwhelming. One of the most important things about remodeling a shower is proper waterproofing. This is where so many bathroom remodels fail, from poor pan sloping to improper curb daming.

That is where the Schluter Shower Systems comes into to play to reduce time and the complexities that come along with remodeling showers. As the main component for rebuilding the shower, the Schluter System is a high-quality, easy-to-connect system that allows you to customize much of the look and feel that you want, along with creating an inherently waterproof installation. Using the Schluter shower system allows customers to have a guarantee for life product.

Things To Consider Before Bathroom Remodel

When planning for a new shower here are some things to consider:

  • Decide a budget! This is so important and will help with your selections. Be sure to plan for any unforeseen such as potential water damage that may be hidden inside your walls or floor only to be discovered during the tear-out phase.

  • Make your material selections before you tear-out. You don't want anything to be on backorder and now your project is at a stand still. Not having material available can and will delay your project.

  • Decide on your shower fixtures. Though it is the last thing that is installed, it's important to know what we are using so we can install the proper valves and plumbing lines.
  • Decide if you want a traditional shampoo/soap dish or recessed Niche.

  • Will you want a glass door or shower curtain?

  • will there be a bench seat?

  • What trims will be used to finish this project?

  • Is this a project you want to take on yourself or hire a professional? Either way, Valverde Tile can help you.

How it works

At Valverde Tile Company, we use a product by the name of Schluter to give clients a guaranteed-for-life product. Shower remodeling can be a great experience if done correctly.

  • Step 1: Removal of Existing Shower

Once the demo is finished, the inspection of existing wood is inspected for visual signs of water damage. Not all showers have existing water damage. If water damage is found, at this point, the damaged material is to be removed and reinstalled. At the point of the estimate, this line item on the estimate is unforeseen. It is not possible for us to determine the extent of water damage before removal.

  • Step 2: Plumbing to start

Once the demo has finished and any repairs that are needed are complete, the rough plumbing will be started. At this point, a new shower valve is generally installed as well as a new supply for the shower head. At this time, if the valve is to be relocated or the shower head to be raised. This is the time we do so.

  • Step 3: Put shower back together

After plumbing, we move on to the phase of putting back. The new wallboard goes up along with Schluter Waterproof Systems to be prepared for the acceptance of the new tile design.

  • Step 4: Tile the shower

At this point, we will tile the shower however you would like it. Once the tiling of the shower is complete, it is at this time we order and measure for a new shower door unit. Not all customers order doors for their showers. It is completely fine to use a shower curtain.

  • Step 5: Allow grout to dry

After the tiling and grouting of the project is complete, we allow the grout to dry. The next day is generally used for hooking up Finish shower trim fixtures to get ready for the use of the new shower. Once we have installed the shower handle and shower head. The shower is now ready for use.
