This is Jose Valverde, the man that would start it all for Valverde Tile. Born 1936 in Texas, Jose would work alongside his father and family as migrant farm workers picking cotton. At the age of 23 Jose would make a life changing decision, he would leave the fields and work as a green tile helper for Almos Tile in Texas. Jose would work and learn the trade for the next 9 years before getting word from his father, who had since moved to California, that there was a great opportunity for him; all he had to do was just make the move.

In 1968 Jose and his wife drove with their six children from Corpus Christi, Texas to Madera, Ca. to join his father and some of his siblings to pursue this great opportunity and see what life in California had to offer.

Just one month into his new life, Jose once again left his father's side in the fields to find work in the tile industry. Little did Jose know that his decision to enter and stay in the tile industry would give influence to his three sons as well as a whole other generation of Valverde’s to come.
